To love a person is to see all of their magic and remind them of it when they have forgotten’
Kia Ora!
Welcome to ‘MY BLOG’ dedicated to supporting carers.
Join me on this journey, and together we shall overcome the challenges.
I am Maori, and I care for a loved one who is living with dementia.
I am inspired to create this blog to support other carers, particularly Maori and Indigenous Australian carers.
By sharing my story, I hope to assist others on similar journeys and support them in becoming better carers by adapting their approach to minimise stress and improve their interactions with the loved one they are caring for. I draw on the challenges I have faced and overcome and the lessons I have learned and continue to learn.
Dementia knows no boundaries – it impacts all caregivers. This enriching blog offers valuable insights to all readers. I share my perspective as a Maori, with Australia holding a significant place in my heart due to my grandchildren and where I presently call home.
‘Ma te kimi ka kite. Mate kite ka mohio. Ma te mohio ka marama’.
Seek and discover, discover and know, know and become enlightened.
Navigating Your Way
Finding your way can be a journey in itself so below I have provided you with some guidance.
- HOME is an excellent place to start and is where we are now. If you need to start again or lose your way, start back HOME.
- ABOUT ME is a space dedicated to sharing information about me. There’s a lot to read, so be warned. It’s the only place to express who I am, why I’m here, and my aspirations. Enjoy it if you have the time; otherwise, feel free to move on to…
- MY BLOG is where I share my story—the ups and downs, what approaches worked and the changes I needed to make, what didn’t work, and why and how stressful situations can be avoided. Remember that everyone is affected by dementia differently, so what worked for me may not work for you, but it may help.
- RESOURCES page is where I’ve compiled links to websites, research papers, community groups, dementia resources, and organizations that have been invaluable in guiding me through the complex journey of understanding dementia and all its aspects.
- CONTACT page is where you can send me an email message, and I will respond as quickly as possible.
Nau Mai - Haere Mai

I am from Aotearoa, New Zealand but reside here in Sydney, Australia.
I acknowledge the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community. I pay my respects to them and their cultures: and to Elders both past and present.
